For those of you who don’t know or haven’t seen it… This was our basement project and we are SUPER proud of 😊
Quick flashback… we bought this house and worked on it before moving in, so we were extremely motivated, its important I preface with that lol. The initial tear up and finishing the basement took us 3 months. But the little improvements and personal touches have just come with time 😊
What we did
Tore out the panels to find they were nailed to 1x3's (knowing we were mounting things to the walls)
We then decided to pull out that framing and build our own new frames with 2x4's
Sealed the walls
Rick put in the insulation
Ran new romex to create new plugs and can lighting
We definitely paid someone to do the dry wall :) cause fuck mudding that
Spray painted the ceiling
Primed and painted the new walls
Got vinyl plank flooring installed
Sanded and stained the existing trim
Built our Tri-force entertainment center

Electrical disconnect, being outside -_-
So yesterday my fiancé and I learned another fun homeowner lesson with our electrical 😊
It started with our lights were acting weird, like haunted house weird, in our bathroom.
Then our internet went out (while trying to play fall guys!) and I noticed a tripped breaker. Didn’t think much of it because when I flipped the breaker it all seemed to be honky dory.
Nope, we wake up the next morning and the lights are flickering while my fiancé was trying to get ready for work. Then we also notice our air conditioner wasn’t cooling the house off. (FML its super-hot and the end of Aug -_-). So we turn the air conditioner off and then on again, this brings to our attention that nothing in the kitchen (stove, microwave, fridge, Keurig) will work if we turn the AC off, even though it wasn’t cooling the house.
WTF, considering we have above average electrical understanding, and we were up at 4am crying ‘what the actual fuck is going on’. We call his parents who are also just getting up with coffee in hand. My fiancé’s step dad is an electrical engineer and even he is stumped at the moment (understand this is 4am and none of us have seen the bottom of our coffee mugs).
We tried to investigate but it was leaving us with a semi working kitchen, constantly resetting internet, basement plugs don’t work but the lights do, the lights in the bathroom wouldn’t stay on and felt like a strobe light party but the fucking plug worked! Needless to say, it was a hot mess morning LOL
All the electricians in the area don’t open till 8am so we are stuck with our hot mess until we could get a hold of someone to come out.
Even when we started calling people at 8 am, finding someone for that day was becoming an issue, and they were recommending we call the illuminating/electric utilities first to make sure it wasn’t a bad connection.
Could not speak to anyone on the phone as it was an automated service ticket system 😊 and only received a text that it was awaiting dispatch. After some bullshittery around 12:30 pm maybe the illuminating guy shows up and checks our meter and the power going in. Says everything’s good and we should check the main disconnect and make sure it has power. Okay, well, we thought we checked it because the only main breaker we have is in the basement.
We come to learn from the electrician that was able to come out, that we are special 😊 cause of course we are.
Most people only have one service disconnect, and its in the basement. We have two, one that we knew of in the basement, andddd one below the meter that is on a separate pole, that connects to our box underground. The breaker on that second disconnect, was fucking melted to the busbar and we only had one pole of power coming to the house (air conditioner takes both poles of the power, so that’s why it went 1st). We are lucky it just melted and didn’t catch on fire -_-
So we take this one and add it the homeowner lessons we have learned file XD
